The Santa Maria Valley Railroad A Wholly-Owned Subsidiary of Coast Belle Rail Corporation Press Release April 1, 2009 For Immediate Release Santa Maria Valley Railroad Awarded 2008 Jake Award With Distinction The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association is proud to announce the winners of the Safety Awards for 2008. The Santa Maria Valley Railroad was awarded the 2008 Jake Award with Distinction, awarded to member short line railroads having a frequency-severity index of 0.00 or no reportable injuries for the year. 235 member railroads earned Jake Awards with Distinction, an additional 105 railroads earned Jake Awards for having an FSI rate lower than the industry average of 20.26. This is the first Jake award since 2002 earned by the Santa Maria Valley Railroad. "2008 was a challenging year for the Santa Maria Valley Railroad", said Rob Himoto, President of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad. "Our employees met many challenges moving out of the downtown yard facilities, moving in and setting up the rail facility at the Betteravia Industrial Park, continuing to rehabilitate the railroad, overhauling equipment, and perform the daily train service in 2008. Our employees worked long hard hours yet performed their duties in a safe manner. We are very proud of their accomplishments and their dedication to the Santa Maria Valley Railroad."
