New Ownership Celebrates First Anniversary at Santa Maria Valley Railroad

The Coast Belle Rail Corporation purchased the Santa Maria Valley Railroad from the descendants of the G. Allan Hancock Family last October and to celebrate, the public is invited to an Open House at the Freight Depot during the Autumn Arts Grapes & Grains Festival on Saturday October 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The historic Freight Depot is located at PO Box 5665.

Representatives from the Santa Maria Valley Railroad will be on hand to answer any questions. There will be a historical display and an Operations Lifesaver display with handouts.

Adults and children can enjoy miniature train rides hosted by the Bitter Creek and Western Railroad for a nominal fee.

The La Condesa, a 1926 Pullman car owned by the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum, will be on display and available for tours. The La Condesa will be used for future dinner excursions.

There will be a special book signing by Hal Madson, author of "Railroads of the Santa Maria Valley", and his latest book "Betteravia, Memories of a Modern California Ghost Town".
