The Santa Maria Valley Railroad A Wholly-Owned Subsidiary of Coast Belle Rail Corporation SMVRR Supports Toys for Tots September 11, 2009 The Santa Maria Valley Railroad was a proud sponsor of today's Toys for Tots Golf Tournament held at Monarch Dunes Golf Course in Nipomo. In just two years, this golf tournament has become a major fundraiser for our area's Toys for Tots chapter which distributed over 50,000 toys to area children during the 2008 Christmas season. A Marine Honor Guard posted the colors for the opening ceremonies on this 8th anniversary of the 911 attack. The Marines folded a special flag which was presented to a relative of a 911 victim. And there's your Santa Maria Valley Railroad Golf Team! Player four is behind the camera. Two SMVRR spouses hand made two quilts for the live auction at this event's dinner. The left quilt is a traditional "Victory Quilt" as it contains many V-shaped elements. The other in patriotic themes was titled "Forever May She Wave" and included the Navy seal. Both quilts had a Toys for Tots event patch stitched in on the back. The quilts raised $1700. The golf trophies were very cool crystalline trains in the Toys for Tots motif (the Toys for Tots logo contains a train!).
