MOW Speeder Run on the SMVRR
November 1, 2008

This weekend the Motorcar Operators West (MOW) speeder group did a run on the Santa Maria Valley Railroad. From the first picture at check in to the last picture Sunday afternoon, the group seemed to have a good time, and the SMVRR certainly enjoyed having them here. The Friends of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad helped out immensely - see more pictures of their support efforts. On to Nov 2nd.

Bill Schertle was the MOW run director and gave the safety briefings.

Glen Ford, President of Motorcar Operators West (MOW).

Behind the speeders stands the lime tower from the old sugar mill.

Those are the old sugar storage silos.

The view leaving the Betteravia Industrial Park and headed straight for the Guadalupe exchange yard.

Strawberry fields.

Past SMVRR Caboose No. 180.

The weather was somewhat threatening all weekend, but as it turned out it only rained overnight.

Hal Madson provided the group with a little history of Betteravia.

This picture starts a series covering the group's use of the downtown wye to turn the "train" around. Here they go straight through on the mainline.

Backing up onto the east leg of the wye.

Still on the east leg.

Dennis throws the switch to take them down the west leg.
