Father's Day Excursions
on the Santa Maria Valley Railroad

The SMVRR ran their final excursions of the season with the ex-California Zephyr dome car Silver Lariat on Saturday June 16, 2007. The lunch excursion started out with an overcast day but the sun quickly broke through on the way to Guadalupe. Some passengers came from as far away as Livermore, California to the north and Costa Mesa, California to the south on this final lunch excursion aboard the Silver Lariat. The lunch was absolutely delicious with a choice of Chicken Marsala or Baked Tilapia, catered by Ambrosia's Restaurant. Owner and Chef Mogen Mortenson once served as an executive chef aboard a train in Denmark.

A great time was enjoyed by all for the final dinner excursion that night. Clear weather and a delicious dinner with great service from the staff from Ambrosia's topped off a wonderful evening. Passengers were started with appetizers and drinks followed by a beautiful salad. At the Guadalupe interchange Amtrak #11 came by on the Union Pacific main line. After SMV #1801 ran around the Silver Lariat, diners were served a main course of either Prime Rib or Chicken Marsala. As the excursion headed into Santa Maria one final time a strawberry mousse was served to top off a wonderful evening. Afterwards many of the passengers came into the freight depot for refreshments and to purchase items from the company store.

The Silver Lariat left Santa Maria Wednesday June 20, 2007 for a busy season of charters throughout the country. Many of the charters are private, but there are a few public charters available. The Silver Lariat along with three private sleeping cars will be traveling from Union Station in Los Angeles, California to Santa Fe, New Mexico from July 3 to July 8, 2007. This includes three nights stay at the ex-Harvey House hotel the La Fonda in Santa Fe and a day on the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad. Seats are still available, for more information visit their website at www.CalZephyrRailcar.com.
