Union Pacific Steel Gang Arrives;SMVRR Gangs Are Active, Too December 5, 2006 The Union Pacific steel gang train arrived in Guadalupe on Tuesday, December 5. Two MOW gangs, a steel gang and a tie gang will be working on the UPRR Coast Line installing continuously welded rail and new ties. They will be based out of Guadalupe for the next several months. After years of deferred maintenance from the SP days, UPRR has put much needed capital in the Coast Line upgrading track and modernizing signals and signal equipment.
Pictured above, SMVRR gang at work.The Union Pacific Railroad continues to commit large capital investments to improve its infrastructure systemwide, enabling UPRR to improve service and reliability to the SMVRR and SMVRR's freight customers. At left, SMVRR crewmembers work in the downtown yard. The SMVRR has embarked on improving its infrastructure. Midway siding, located at Smith Street in Santa Maria, has been completely rebuilt and SMVRR's Maintenance of Way gang has been replacing ties and improving track structure systemwide.
Together the Union Pacific Railroad and the Santa Maria Valley Railroad continue to make capital infrastructure improvements to improve service and reliability for all of our freight customers. At right, more SMVRR track work in progress. Below are pictures of the Union Pacific Railroad steel gang equipment train that was placed in the SMVRR/UPRR exchange yard at Guadalupe.
