As a test market for possible future dinner excursions, the SMVRR hosted the first ever Dinner Train Excursion on November 9, 2006. It was a huge success as the Dinner Train was quickly sold out with no advertising. Guests were treated to a gourmet meal featuring beef tenderloin in Bernaise Sauce and Cajun Shrimp served with fine wine and appetizers. SMVRR's GE 70-tonner No. 70 draws up alongside Caboose No. 180 with the Silver Lariat in tow, all ready for the evening's passengers. Passengers and railroad staff mingled at the depot before the trip. Excursioneers spent some time viewing the railroad exhibits in the depot building before boarding the dinner train. All aboard.
